WOKQ and Oxford Casino Team Up to Raise $5,000 for Wreaths Across America

Oxford, Maine (September 26, 2016) – This summer WOKQ (a division of Town Square Media) and Oxford Casino joined forces to hold fundraising events to benefit Maine-based, national nonprofit Wreaths Across America.  Guests were encouraged to make donations during WOKQ’s live broadcasts from the casino.  On Friday, September 23, 2016, a check in the amount of $5000 was presented to Amber Caron, public relations contact for Wreaths Across America.  Jack Sours, General Manager and Vice President of Oxford Casino said, “Oxford Casino is proud of our established and continued efforts toward supporting our brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice and veterans who fought in defense of our nation and our freedom.”

This December, Wreaths Across America volunteers will place nearly 1 million Maine-made balsam wreaths on the headstones of our fallen veterans at more than 1,100 participating locations across the country, including our nation’s cemetery at Arlington. The purpose of laying the wreaths is not to decorate graves, but to remember and honor the lives of the veterans who sacrificed so much for our freedom.

“It is thanks to groups and individuals like WOKQ, Oxford Casino and their patrons that Wreaths Across America is able to honor and remember so many of our nation’s heroes each December,” said Karen Worcester, executive director, Wreaths Across America. “Each wreath is sponsored by a grateful American and will be placed on the graves of fallen servicemen and women as their names are read aloud to ensure they are not forgotten.”

This year National Wreaths Across America Day will be on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016. National Wreaths Across America Day is a free event, open to all. For more information, to donate or to sign up to volunteer, please visit www.WreathsAcrossAmerica.org.
