Food For Free Play Promotion

OXFORD, Maine (Dec. 19, 2013) –  Boxes containing more than 5,500, non-perishable, items have been delivered to local food pantries as a result of Oxford Casino’s Food For Free Play promotion.
From December 2 to December 15, all guests who are Oxford Rewards Club members received $5 in Free Slot Play for their donations of unexpired, non-perishable food items.

On the morning of December 5, the casino ran out of storage space for the donations in its warehouse and had to send the first load of 1,349 items out to make room for more.  Half of the food was received by the Oxford Hills Food Pantry which serves families and individuals in Oxford, South Paris and other areas in the Oxford Hills that do not have their own food pantry.  It’s located at the Christ Episcopal Church on Paris Street in Norway.  The other half of the truckload was delivered to the Poland Community Church Food Pantry which is located on Main Street in Poland.

“We’re part of this community, and we recognize that our area food banks need support, particularly during the cold, winter months,” said Jack Sours, Vice-President/General Manager of Oxford Casino.  “We’re happy to do our part to help keep them going.”

“Most guests bring in multiple items,” explained Tad Smith, Guest Service Center Supervisor.  People received $5 in Free Slot Play for their donations whether they brought in one can of food, or a bag full.  Each day, they could make another donation and receive another $5 in Free Slot Play until the promotion ended.

As of December 16, 2013, 5,602 non-perishable items, in total, have been donated to the Casino’s Food For Free Play promotion.  One hundred, additional boxes of food have been collected since December 5, and have been donated to pantries in Oxford, Poland, Norway, Mechanic Falls and Lewiston.
